Cyalume recently won the NATO contract for the supply of glow sticks, which reinforces and underlines its position as a leader in this market. I In addition to the continued efforts in R&D, one of the reasons for these successes is that Cyalume chemiluminescent products are the only chemical light products that comply with REACH regulations. All chemicals contained in our products have been declared and registered in a timely manner in accordance with the European REACH regulation for the R egistration, the E valuation, A uthorization and R estriction of substances Chemicals (EC) No. 1907/2006, which entered into force on 1 June 2007.For more information you can consult our section on the REACH regulation or visit the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website, which is available in many languages.
The registration deadline for a substance representing an annual tonnage of between 1 and 100 tonnes manufactured or imported into the European Union was 31st May 2018. To date, Cyalume is the only manufacturer to have registered with ECHA the only known substance that is required for producing a light stick, in order to comply with the REACH regulation. Cyalume has also registered other substances that make up our products.
In a chemical light stick or patch, such as a 15cm (6 inch) light stick containing 10 ml of chemicals, there are at least 3 substances that must be subject to REACH registration for any importer or manufacturer of chemiluminescent products as soon as the quantity of products placed on the European market reaches 200 000 units annually, i.e. a very small volume for a manufacturer/importer.
Each of these substances must be registered separately by the manufacturer according to the total number of glow sticks / chemiluminescent products manufactured and then imported into Europe! The obligation applies to distributors and/or end users to ensure that imported and/or sold products are in compliance and that the manufacturer complies with the rules laid down by REACH. Cyalume products meet all these requirements.
As a manufacturer and distributor of chemiluminescent products that complies with REACH, the articles we supply do not contain any substances of very high concern (called Substances of Very High Concern or SVHC substances). These substances are indicated in the Candidate List of substances subject to special authorisation given their intrinsic properties (e. g. mutagenic, carcinogenic or reproductive toxic chemical, etc.).
Our standard product range does not contain any phthalates! Please note that some of these chemicals are banned on the European market, such as Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), that is currently used for the manufacture of chemiluminescent products by other manufacturers of chemiluminescent products.
Our products are totally safe and do not emit any spark, flame or any heat source. Our light sticks are ATEX certified and can therefore be used in explosive or confined areas.
All our products are manufactured either in France or in the United States according to the ISO 9001 standard.
